Overview
FareStart’s Food Security Team partners with area food rescue nonprofits, local farms, and food businesses to pick up food donations. This product will be used in our community meals, at our mobile markets, to support student training, and in other food security initiatives. It helps FareStart incorporate fresh, local, and nutritious products into those programs, diversify ingredients we wouldn’t otherwise be able to purchase, and minimize costs.
Tasks
This ongoing weekly volunteer role will support in a variety of activities, including:
- Ride along with FareStart staff to pick up location.
- Help load products into vans.
- Help unload products at FareStart.
- Help to sort, weigh, record, and store products.
Schedule and Location
- Thursdays 8:30am-12:30pm,—van will be leaving at 8:45pm sharp
- Shift will begin and end at 700 Virginia St, Seattle WA 98101
- Volunteer will ride with FareStart staff in company vehicle to and from the pickup location.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Be able to lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly
- Be able to stand and walk for up to 4 hours
- Champion of FareStart's commitment to anti-racism (access on volunteer portal)
- Adhere to FareStart's volunteer expectations (access on volunteer portal)
- Flexibility: tasks and amount of work may change week to week
- Must be 18yrs +
- Must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 and submit proof to FareStart
