Who We Are

Maximizing the Impact of Food

Our food resourcing programs feed and sustain each other to maximize the benefits of fresh, healthy, and nutritious food.  We source recovered and donated food from the local food system to prevent waste and incorporate culturally relevant ingredients in our food security meals.

  • Since 2017, we have recovered and redistributed over 1.3 million pounds of food that would otherwise have gone to waste.
  • We have put over $2.4 million dollars worth of recovered food to good use since 2017.
  • We partner with local farms, like Oxbow Farm and Conservation Center, 21 Acres, and Carnation Farms, to support local producers and reduce waste

What We Do

Food Resourcing Kitchen Support

Help with donations that support our Community Meals

In order to support the food distribution done by FareStart's contract meals, the team works with nearby food rescue nonprofits and local farms to pick up food donations and prepare them for their final destination. This helps FareStart incorporate fresh, local, and nutritious products into those programs, diversify ingredients we wouldn't otherwise be able to purchase, and minimize costs. Our current gleaning farm partners are 21 Acres, Carnation Farms, and Oxbow Farm and Conservation Center.

Gleaning

Come spend some time with us at the Farm June-October

FareStart's Food Resourcing Team works with local partners to support our food rescue and access initiatives.  From our local growers, we glean any goods that are seconds, in excess, or that they would like to donate.

Since 2019, we have recovered and redistributed over 1 million pounds of food that would otherwise have gone to waste.
