Come help FareStart harvest produce from Ayeko Farm!
FareStart’s Food Security Team works with local partners to support our food rescue and access initiatives. From our local growers, we glean any goods that are seconds, in excess, or that they would like to donate. This product will be used at our Mobile Community Markets to provide local, nutritious food to communities experiencing food insecurity and will be incorporated into our Community and School Meals.
Ayeko Farm sits on 21 acres of land along the Newaukum Creek. Dedicated to creating spaces for communities to reconnect with the land and with their cultures through food and farming, Ayeko Farm grows culturally important food, hosts educational programs and workshops, holds cultural arts events and healing retreats, and replants native forests and pollinator plants.
For those new to gleaning, gleaning is:
The act of harvesting or collecting unused or surplus produce from farms and distributing it to those experiencing food insecurity
Traditionally defined as gathering anything left over after a harvest
This is a Family Friendly volunteer opportunity, open to ages 5-15 years with a guardian and 16-17 years with guardian consent.
