We have over 30 years of history and expertise in preparing and delivering meals across the Greater Seattle area, producing 19 million meals for local nonprofits, shelters, respite centers, youth and adult daycare centers and schools. Volunteers help with a variety of tasks to help supplement the large amount of work that goes in to creating around 2,365 meals each day. No kitchen experience required! A great opportunity for hands-on volunteer work and team building. Food is provided! Volunteer Duties: Volunteers will help prepare meals by completing basic preparation tasks. Volunteer: Glean Lead at Carnation FarmsThe Food Resourcing team is working to reduce food waste and increase food security by transporting excess donated products we receive from our local farm partners that cannot be used within FareStart to our local food bank partners instead. The volunteer will lead fellow volunteers in harvesting produce at the farm; then will transport produce from the farm to the correlating food bank that requested it. Essential information will be provided beforehand, as well as directions to any locations being traveled to. Requirements: Having a personal vehicle to transport food in or willing to be van trained Preferred: The ability to attend regular shifts (once a week or once every other week). However, we will take any help you are willing to give! The Communications team works to generate awareness and support for our mission through email and social marketing, outreach materials, point of sale, public advocacy, and our website. Afterwards the volunteer will be responsible for returning materials to FareStart. Must be able to carry 25 lbs. SPEAKING- These events are most often linked to workplace giving and third-party events. Volunteers will be provided with notes about FareStart, scripts, as well as the opportunity to shadow. Most speaking engagements last from 5 to 15 minutes depending on the event. COMMUNITY EVENTS- Ambassador volunteers will get first access to special events where we want to send in knowledgeable volunteers to represent FareStart in the community.PROGRAMS OUTREACH AMBASSADOR- Represent FareStart at our community partner locations and help recruit new students. This is an ambassador role with a twist, emphasizing the Job Training and Employment Programs and impacting student enrollment.
