Volunteer: Community Meals Kitchen Meals Prep--Weekday Mornings

Join FareStart in making meals at our Community Meals Kitchen!

We believe everyone is entitled to fresh, healthy and nutritious food.  We have over 30 years of history and expertise in preparing and delivering meals across the Greater Seattle area, producing 19 million meals for local nonprofits, shelters, respite centers, youth and adult daycare centers and schools.  Volunteers help with a variety of tasks to help supplement the large amount of work that goes in to creating around 2,365 meals each day. No kitchen experience required! A great opportunity for hands-on volunteer work and team building.

We rely on the hard work of volunteers in order to effectively serve our community.  If you schedule a volunteer shift and do not show up it means others are not able to sign up and we aren't able to make the meals our community depends on.  Please unregister yourself as soon as possible if you are not able to attend so others may sign up.

Volunteer Duties: Volunteers will help prepare meals by completing basic preparation tasks. FareStart staff will assign tasks based on individual skill and comfort level.

Attire: Volunteers are asked to wear sturdy, closed-toed, non-slip/rubber-soled shoes and full-length pants. We also advise volunteers to wear clothes and shoes which can get dirty, we will provide aprons. Long hair must be tied back, and all volunteers must wear a hat or a hairnet (hairnet provided). Please refrain from wearing nail polish.

Group Size: Individuals or groups of up to 5 people.

All volunteers must be signed up in advance and complete a user profile on the volunteer website, those without accounts or not signed up for the shift will be turned away.

About the Event

The Amazon Volunteer Fair brings together 15+ local nonprofit partners under one roof to connect directly with Amazon employees eager to contribute their time and skills to the community. Our goal is to have 500 Amazonians attend to learn about your organization's mission, explore volunteer opportunities, and sign up for GMV activities in May. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your work, share specific volunteer needs, and build lasting partnerships with Amazon employees who are passionate about giving back.

Booth Setup & Event Details

When you arrive to the floor 16 event space, please pick a table and setup your booth Tables are not preassigned and are available on a first-come, first-served basis Please bring any materials you'd like to display or hand out (flyers, signage, sign-up sheets, table cloths, swag, etc.) Each partner will receive one 5-foot table and two chairs Wi-Fi network is called Guest and doesn’t require a password At the event, we will have staff available onsite to help employees signup internally for the volunteer activities that you are all standing up for GMV May. Anyone who signs up for an event while at the fair will receive an orange Amazon volunteer shirt

 

Departure Details

After the event ends and you are all packed up and ready to leave, please ask a security guard or one of our volunteer ambassadors (wearing orange) to escort you back to reception. • Maintain a high level of customer service including making sure water glasses are refilled, wait times are short, and tables are pre-bussed before next course is served.
• End of Service: Ensure tables are empty and wiped down, sweep carpet in assigned section with Hoky,
assist with breakdown of mezzanine and PDR.

any questions that guests may have regarding wine pairings.
• Pour and serve wine, beer, and pre batched cocktails as ordered via section captains.
• Act as “bar back” refilling glassware as needed.
• End of Service: Place unused wine glasses in Pedersen’s racks and move to “rentals” area of
kitchen, return beverage trays to beverage line, recork used wine, wipe down all surfaces
behind bar with sanitizer, empty trash/recycling.

FareStart invites local chefs to work with our students to prepare a 3-course meal for our guests. All
proceeds and donations from Guest Chef Night go back into our program and fund student services

No kitchen experience required! A great opportunity for hands-on volunteer work and team building. Food is provided! 

Volunteer Duties: Volunteers will help prepare meals by completing basic preparation tasks. FareStart staff will assign tasks based on individual skill and comfort level.

No cooking experience necessary! Ability to stand on hard surface for 5 hours18+ years old

Join us at 21-acres Farm in Woodinville to Glean produce for the Community!

FareStart’s Food Security Team works with local partners to support our food rescue and access initiatives. From our local growers, we glean any goods that are seconds, in excess, or that they would like to donate. This product will be used at our Mobile Community Markets to provide local, nutritious food to communities experiencing food insecurity and will be incorporated into our Community and School Meals.

21 Acres is a leader in sustainable and regenerative practices, serving as a living laboratory center for sustainable ways of living. Their purpose is to promote the benefits of local food systems within the context of climate challenges through their farm, community gardens, native plant nursery, education center, and more.

Must be able to carry 25 lbs.   SPEAKING- These events are most often linked to workplace giving and third-party events. Volunteers will be provided with notes about FareStart, scripts, as well as the opportunity to shadow. Most speaking engagements last from 5 to 15 minutes depending on the event.  COMMUNITY EVENTS- Ambassador volunteers will get first access to special events where we want to send in knowledgeable volunteers to represent FareStart in the community. 

 

PROGRAMS OUTREACH AMBASSADOR- Represent FareStart at our community partner locations and help recruit new students. This is an ambassador role with a twist, emphasizing the Job Training and Employment Programs and impacting student enrollment.
