We believe everyone is entitled to fresh, healthy and nutritious food. We have over 30 years of history and expertise in preparing and delivering meals across the Greater Seattle area, producing 19 million meals for local nonprofits, shelters, respite centers, youth and adult daycare centers and schools. Volunteers help with a variety of tasks to help supplement the large amount of work that goes in to creating around 2,365 meals each day. No kitchen experience required! A great opportunity for hands-on volunteer work and team building. Food is provided! We rely on the hard work of volunteers in order to effectively serve our community. If you schedule a volunteer shift and do not show up it means others are not able to sign up and we aren't able to make the meals our community depends on. Please unregister yourself as soon as possible if you are not able to attend so others may sign up. Volunteer Duties: Volunteers will help prepare meals by completing basic preparation tasks. FareStart staff will assign tasks based on individual skill and comfort level. No cooking experience necessary! This product will be used in our community meals to support student training, and in other food security initiatives. It helps FareStart incorporate fresh, local, and nutritious products into those programs, diversify ingredients we wouldn’t otherwise be able to purchase, and minimize costs. Tasks This ongoing weekly volunteer role will support in a variety of activities, including: Receiving, sorting, and processing recovered and donated food for immediate use, transfer, or long-term storage Prepping product to be viable for immediate use by kitchens and for storage. Volunteer: Ambassador VolunteerGOAL OF THE POSITION To help promote FareStart to the community, engage people and get them excited and informed about FareStart’s work. VARIATIONS Volunteer ambassadors will have the opportunity to partake in one or more of the following types of ambassador roles. TABLING- These events are most often linked to workplace giving. Volunteers will be provided with a packet that includes table layouts, FAQ, notes about FareStart, sample spiels and training to prepare them. Volunteers will be asked to collect supplies at FareStart, take them to the event, set up the table and then represent FareStart at the event. Afterwards the volunteer will be responsible for returning materials to FareStart. Must be able to carry 25 lbs. SPEAKING- These events are most often linked to workplace giving and third-party events. Volunteers will be provided with notes about FareStart, scripts, as well as the opportunity to shadow. Most speaking engagements last from 5 to 15 minutes depending on the event. COMMUNITY EVENTS- Ambassador volunteers will get first access to special events where we want to send in knowledgeable volunteers to represent FareStart in the community.PROGRAMS OUTREACH AMBASSADOR- Represent FareStart at our community partner locations and help recruit new students. This is an ambassador role with a twist, emphasizing the Job Training and Employment Programs and impacting student enrollment. Volunteer outreach will increase the capacity for our programs team to engage with the community.
