Volunteer: Food Resourcing Kitchen Support

Overview

FareStart’s Food Resourcing Team partners with area food rescue nonprofits, local farms, and food businesses to pick up food donations. This product will be used in our community meals to support student training, and in other food security initiatives. It helps FareStart incorporate fresh, local, and nutritious products into those programs, diversify ingredients we wouldn’t otherwise be able to purchase, and minimize costs.

Tasks

This ongoing weekly volunteer role will support in a variety of activities, including:

Receiving, sorting, and processing recovered and donated food for immediate use, transfer, or long-term storage Prepping product to be viable for immediate use by kitchens and for storage. Sorting, weighing, labeling and other inventory related tasks Basic kitchen prep tasks Sorting and organizing product based on each programs needs and setting items up for transfer and pick up

Schedule and Location

Mondays & Tuesdays, 4:30pm-6:30pm at 700 Virginia St, Seattle WA 98101

Qualifications and Requirements

Be able to lift up to 35 pounds repeatedly Be able to stand and walk for up to 2 hours Adhere to FareStart's volunteer expectations Flexibility: tasks and amount of work may change week to week Must be 18yrs +
